Lot #52. Antique Folding Chess Backgammon Board Box
Antique Folding Chess Backgammon Board Box.
An Antique Folding Chess Backgammon Board Box with inlaid Backgammon points on the reverse. The chessboard squares are Sycamore and Rosewood veneer with inlaid ebony delimiters in a solid Mahogany frame. The box measures 19-1/2″ x 15-1/4″ open and 15-1/4″ x 9-3/4″ x 3-1/4″ closed. The square size is 1-7/8″. The Backgammon points are 5-3/4″ long. This antique is in excellent condition with a linear crack parallel to the fold. The luster is quite good but the board could use a good coat of a quality paste wax like Lebron’s or MinWax. The chess and Backgammon board/box appears to have been produced in the late 1800s. The chessboard is designed to accommodate chessmen with a base diameter of between 1-1/4″ and 1-7/16″ and Draughtsmen or Backgammon checkers up to 1-1/4″ in diameter.
