Antique Folding Chessboard.
An Antique Folding Chessboard. The chessboard squares are boxwood and Rosewood veneer with a Mahogany paneled back and raised frame. The chess board measures 12-5/8″ x 12-5/8″ open and 12-5/8″ x 6-3/8″ x 1-5/8″ closed. The square size is 1-1/2″. The chessboard utilized two brass folding box hinges. This antique is in very good condition with no damage but exhibits a slight convex bob in the center. The finish is generally sound and has a decent luster. It could probably use a coat of wax. It appears to have been produced in the late 1800s. The chessboard is designed to accommodate chessmen with a base diameter of between 1-0″ and 1-1/8″ and Draughtsmen 1-0″ in diameter.
