Antique Jaques Lasker Chessmen, Tournament Size.
Offered here is a spectacular set of Antique Jaques Lasker Chessmen, circa 1885. The weighted chess pieces are Boxwood and Ebony. The King stands 3-1/2″ tall with a 1-3/4″ diameter base. These authentic Staunton chessmen rest atop green English baize and are heavily weighted. The Knights are of the Lasker style. The White King is stamped “Jaques London ” on the rim of the base. The Kingside Rooks and Knights are stamped with a red King’s crown on their summits. This King height is often referred to as the “Tournament Size.” The Knights are very finely carved. The Antique Jaques Lasker Chessmen are housed in their original Mahogany hinge-top box with its green Manufacturer’s label. These sets were produced between 1880 and 1890. The chessmen and box are in excellent condition for their age. The antique chessboard and Junghan’s Timer shown are not included as part of this sale. These chessmen play and display best on a chessboard with 2-1/4″ squares. A Jaques folding Chess/Backgammon board designed to complement these chessmen can be found here.
