Henry VIII Field of Cloth of Gold Chess Pieces
A German guilt-heightened and polychrome 20th century porcelain figural chess set by Rudolf Kammer, (Kammer porcelain from Volkstedt, Germany) modeled as Henry VIII and Francis I of France, the undersides with blue markings and numbering. The King stands 7-1/8” tall. The English side has troubadour bishops, falconer knights, rooks as the Tower of London The French side has chancellors as bishops, rooks as the stair tower at Blois by J-J. van Gerdinge. It was the site of the famous meeting that took place from 7 June to 24 June 1520, between King Henry VIII and King Francis I to increase the bond of friendship between the two monarchs following the Anglo-French treaty of 1514. Included is the fitted storage case with drawers.
