King Wenceslaus Chess Pieces by Studio Anne Carlton.
This lot features the King Wenceslaus Chess Pieces by Studio Anne Carlton cast in black and ivory plastic. The tallest piece, the King, stands 3-5/8″ tall with a 3/4″ base diameter. The chessmen are weighted and rest atop felt base pads. Included is the manufacturer’s History of King Wenceslaus. The pieces are housed in a replacement box. The chessmen were Manufactured in by Studio Anne Carlton in Hull, England.
Wenceslaus was a 10th-century Catholic Duke of Bohemia also known as Vaclav the Good, and was martyred after being assassinated by his wicked brother, Boleslaw the Bad. Wenceslaus’s remains are interred in St Vitus’s cathedral in Prague, and he was recently made patron saint of the Czech Republic.
