Description
Antique Jaques Lasker Style Staunton Chessmen.
A set of antique Jaques Lasker-style Staunton, chessmen, Club-size, in boxwood and ebony, unweighted. All these Late Victorian Era Staunton style chess pieces retain their original, somewhat time-worn green baize base pads. This is a full Club-size tournament set: the King stands 4-1/4″ tall with a 1-7/8″ diameter base.
The Knights are very well carved in the Jaques Lasker manner and could well have been cut by a Jaques craftsman, particularly if Jaques’ knight heads were outsourced. These Antique Lasker Style Staunton Chessmen were likely produced in the United Kingdom around 1885. The maker is unknown, but the quality is every bit as good as comparable Jaques sets.
Then Chess pieces are housed in their original unlined mahogany slide-top box. The pieces are in excellent condition, with a pleasing honey patina and no replacements. They play and display best on a chessboard with 2-1/4″ to 2-1/2″ squares. The board shown is not included. A good selection of antique and vintage boards to pair with these chessmen can be found here.
