Description
Antique Rajasthan Hindu Chess Pieces.
Offered here is a set of Antique Rajasthan Hindu Chess Pieces. The King stands 1.4″ tall with a 1-0.6″ Base. The chessmen are attractively carved, and the two armies are differentiated by red and gold accented head gear and bases as well as weapons. The chessmen were manufactured in Rajasthan, India, probably around 1890. The Kings, Queens and Rooks are rulers seated upon thrones, unlike most Rajasthan sets, where the rulers are riding atop elephants in Houdas, The Knights are soldiers on Horseback while the bishops are represented as riders atop Camels. The rooks are depicted as riders seated on Elephants. The chessmen are in very good condition and are housed in a black leatherette-covered briefcase, lined in red felt, with individual compartments for each piece. A suitable chessboard is not included with this lot. A collection of fine antique and modern chessboards can be found here.
