Antique Staunton Portable Chess Set.
Here is an Antique Staunton Portable Chess Set. The chessmen are natural and ebonized Boxwood and are secured in place during play be thin metal pins. The accompanying folding box/chessboard is Mahogany and measures 7″ square. There is also a rather unique removable divider that mounts into the chessboard to prevent the chessmen from falling out and keeps the two armies separated when the pieces are stored and the board/box is folded. The set is complete and in very good condition. This set probably dates to between 1890 and 1900.
