Bone Staunton chessmen were produced in several sizes. Both Richard Whitty B & Company produced similar sets starting around 1880 or a bit earlier, but the maker of this set is not known. The Knights are styled much like Knights found in the better Staunton chess sets. The chessmen are in superb condition and the red stain is still vibrant. Very little is known about all the makers who offered these style bone chessmen but, assuming the inscription is authentic, this set dates to 1909.
