This handsome contemporary decorative set of Faceted Glass Crystal Chessmen features thirty-two meticulously faceted clear glass crystal pieces, each surmounted by richly detailed electroplated metal crowns, finials, and figurative elements with gold and brilliant silver finishes. The design presents a striking contrast between the brilliant, light-refracting crystal bodies and the ornate, classically inspired metalwork. Kings and queens display elaborate crowns. Bishops wear mitered tops. Rooks rise as castellated towers. Knights appear as spirited horse heads with flowing manes. The pawns are rendered in simpler yet elegant form.
Every piece rests on a faceted hexagonal plated base, a distinctly modern, jewel-like presence. The king stands a compact 2⅜ inches in height, making the set ideal for display on a side table, mantel, or within a collector’s cabinet.
Manufactured in China to a high standard of visual refinement, the Faceted Glass Crystal Chessmen are crafted in two coordinated finishes, gold-plated and silver-plated, differentiating the two armies.
