French Library Size Vintage Chessmen.
Offered here is an original set of French Library Size Vintage Chessmen. This style of Chessmen was typically found immediately after WWII. The pieces are crafted from natural and ebonized Boxwood with typical French carved Knights. Each of the chessmen is weighted. The chess pieces rest atop green baize base pads. The King stands 3-0″ tall with a 1-1/8″ diameter base. These are commonly referred to as Library Size chessmen. The pieces are housed in a Jaques slide top box, with the green Jaques label marked “Made in England J.J.&S.” The J.J.&S. stood for John Jaque & Son. These slide-top Jaques boxes typically produced after WWII were made to house their second quality chess Pieces. The chessmen are in excellent condition. The box is serviceable with a clear green maker’s label, but one side rail has broken off.
This set of chess pieces will make the perfect analysis set. These chessmen were likely made by lardy of Fance. The set is circa 1950. The chessboard shown is not included.
