Bloodwood is an exotic wood that is sometimes referred to as cardinal wood or Satine, for its obvious beautiful deep rose color. With age it’s color does darken, but not significantly so it is a great wood to use in intarsia projects. The wood is very dense, with a tight fine, mostly linear grain. Bloodwood finishes and polishes beautifully and is prized for it’s vivid color which is eye-catching. Other names often used to describe Bloodwood are, Satine, Pau, Falso pao brasil, Satinwood, Satine rouge, or Palo de oro. The botanical name for Bloodwood is Brosimum Paraense.

Bloodwood grows in, Central America, Latin America; Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana and Suriname. It is most often used for musical instruments, jewelry boxes, inlays, small parts and accessories.
