Lockable Antique Folding Game Board.
A Lockable Antique Folding Game Board with masterfully inlaid embellishments and accommodations on the frame for scorekeeping pegs. One side of the board/box has the standard 2-1/4″ squares for Chess and Draughts. The obverse has profuse marquetry and inlaid points for Backgammon. The chessboard squares are Rosewood and Sycamore. The backgammon Points are Mahogany and Holly with artistic inlays and delimiters in a solid, Rosewood frame. The chess board measures 21′ by 18″. The square size is 2-1/4″. The unusual feature of this antique chessboard is the semi-mortise lock set and key, something rarely found on board-boxes of this type. This antique folding game box was designed to house a set of full tournament-size chess pieces and 1-1/2″ diameter backgammon checkers shakers and die (not included).
This Chess and Backgammon Board is in excellent condition for its age. The finish is quite good This antique folding game board dates to around 1860.
