Description
Nigerian Hand-Carved Chess Pieces.
Here is a set of Nigerian Tribal Chess Pieces. The chessmen are hand-carved from dark and light Thornwood. The King stands 2-3/4″ tall with a 3/4″ diameter base. The chessmen are in very good condition. The no chessboard is included, but a suitable new or antique chessboard can be found here. These sets were likely produced in Yoruba, Nigeria around 1920. An identical set is described and shown at the Maryhill Museum of Art in Goldendale, Washington.
