Vintage Nutcracker Black and White Painted Chess Set.
A very striking example of a vintage Nutcracker Themed white and black Painted Chess set. The king stands 3-3/4″ tall with a 1-1/8″ base. This chess set consists of 32 hand-turned, hand-painted chess pieces and a chessboard/storage box (not shown). The glass chessboard shown is not included. but a suitable chessboard can be found here. Each of the chessmen rests atop green felt base pads. The bodies of the felted chessmen are solid wood. The corpulent pawns are quite charming. These are often referred to as “Toy Sets”. There are a number of related designs, and prices can range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. The chessmen are in excellent condition; The storage box is in good condition. This vintage set appears to date to the mid-20th century.
