Philippine Slender Staunton Style Chessmen.
Offered here is a large set of Philippine Slender Staunton style Chessmen, with a King standing 4-5/8″ tall with a 1-3/8” diameter base. The design of the set is post-WWII. The pieces are crafted from local Philippine woods. The chessmen are weighted, which makes them practical for actual play. The most notable feature of this set of chess pieces is the Knight – flat, somewhat curved shield impressed with the silhouette of a horse’s head. Each of the chess pieces is cushioned atop felt base pads. The polished white pieces have developed a pleasant patina over time.
These Philippine Slender Staunton Style Chessmen are in excellent condition and date to around 1970. The Chess pieces are housed in a combination chessboard-box. The chessmen play or display bast on chessboard with 2-1/4” squares. The Signature chessboard shown is not included in this offering, but the combination folding chessboard/storage box shown is included, In addition, many suitable new and antique chessboards are available and can be found here.
