Rajasthan Polychrome Chess Pieces.
Offered here is a set of Rajasthan Polychrome Chess Pieces 2-5/8″ tall with a 1-7/8″ Base. The chessmen are very finely carved and accented in green, red and gold. The chessmen are in perfect condition and were manufactured in Rajasthan, India.
The Kings, Queens and Rooks are represented as riders in howdahs mounted atop elephants, The Knights are soldiers on Horseback while the Bishops are represented as riders atop Camels. The set is highly decorative and the gilt decoration is a typical example of the Rajasthan style.
The chessmen are displayed on a decorative black lacquered folding chessboard box with gold embellishments. It has a Backgammon board on the interior and is not included with this lot. A collection of fine antique and modern chessboards can be found here.
This chess set is a 20th Century ivory product. Its date of manufacture cannot be accurately established. Consequently, it is not available for sale due to restrictions of the sale of ivory products less than 90 years old that do not otherwise meet the Antique Exemptions listed within the 2014 Obama Administration Executive Order DO 210. It is shown here for illustrative purposes only.
