Rajasthan Polychrome Ivory Chess Set.

Offered here is a Rajasthan Polychrome Ivory Chess Set 2-5/8″ tall with a 1-7/8″ Base. The chessmen are very finely carved and accented in green, red and gold. The chessmen are in perfect condition  and were manufactured in Rajasthan, India. Circa 1945

The Kings, Queens and Rooks are represented as elephants, The Knights are riders on Horseback while the Bishops are represented as riders atop Camels. The set is highly decorative and the gilt decoration is a typical example of the Rajasthan style.

The chessmen are displayed on a decorative black lacquered folding chessboard box with gold embellishments. It has a Backgammon board on the interior. The chessboard, which measures Monochrome, 19-5/8″ square open with 1-7/8″ squares, is of Chinese origin.

This chess set is post-Korean War (1960s). Consequently, it is not available for sale due to restrictions of the sale of ivory products less than 100 years old that do not otherwise meet the Antique Exemptions listed within the 2014 Obama Administration Executive Order DO 210.
