Royal Dux Art Deco Chess Set

This striking Porcelain Royal Dux Art Deco Chess Set was designed in the late 1960s. It was first produced in the Bohemian Porcelain factory in the Czech Republic, but the chess set had a very short production run. The chessmen have a fairly simple but harmonious design and employ only white, mat black and mat gold finishes. The king stands at 10,5 cm (4.1″) tall with the Pawn standing at 5 cm (2″). The bases are approximately 4 cm (1.6″) in diameter. This is an original set, not one of the Modern Royal Dux chess sets currently being sold. The etched Glass chessboard shown with the chessmen is not included, but is available elsewhere on this site. For our extensive selection of premium and antique chessboards, visit this link.

The name Royal Dux is World renown for the highest quality porcelain products. The chess set is completely hand made and all the details on each playing piece are hand painted. These Royal Dux Chessmen were designed by Jan Starka.  Jan is known for the refraction glass chess set that was designed by him and Eva Savinkova. An image of the Refraction Glass set is shown in the movie scene on the left. The Refraction chess set is featured in the motion picture named Lucky Number Slevin starring Josh Hartnett, Lucy Liu, Morgan Freeman, Bruce Willis and Sir Ben Kingsley.
