Modern Samuel Pepys Gold and Silver Gilt Chess Set.
Offered here is modern reproduction of the Samuel Pepys chess Set in Gold and Silver Gilt cast Metal. These magnificent chess pieces are inspired by the Pepys design which is named after the 17th century English diarist Samuel Pepys, who was supposedly presented with such a style set by James II of England. The original Samuel Pepys chess set is a rare set that was crafted in India in the 18th or 19th century. It has a distinctive design with abstract shapes and complex pedestals. The King stands a statuesque 4-3/4″ tall with a 1-0″ diameter base.
The chess pieces are felted and displayed proudly in a fitted red-velvet-lined wooden dark-stained Pine display case with a relief of a Chess Knight carved on the lid. This set of chessmen was produced in Italy, and dates to the late 20th century. The chessmen are in as new condition. The chessmen deserve to be displayed on a premium chessboard with at least 2-1/4″ or 2-3/8″ squares for optimum visibility.
