Vintage Victorian Characters Bust Chessmen.
An unusual set of vintage Dolfi-Style Victorian Characters Bust Chessmen, consisting of hand-carved and painted pedestal-mounted caricature busts. The subjects in this chess set are hand-carved and colorfully painted Victorian characters. The King stands 4-0″ tall mounted on a 1-1/2 diameter pedestal. The drum-like bases are unweighted and felted. The chessmen are in excellent condition. These chessmen were likely produced in Italy around 1960, although an exact date can’t be verified. The pieces are crafted from Alpine Maple. No chessboard is included with this sale, but a suitable chessboard can be found here.
