Folding Backgammon and Chess Board.
A Victorian Folding Backgammon and Chess Board with inlaid geometric embellishments. One side of the board/box has the standard 64 squares for Chess and Draughts. The obverse has inlaid points for Backgammon. The chessboard squares and Backgammon Points are Sycamore and Rosewood veneer with inlaid delimiters in a solid Mahogany frame. The chess board measures 18″ by 14″. The square size is 1-1/2″. This Folding game box was designed to accommodate a set of Pre-Staunton chess pieces with base diameters between 1-0″ and 1-1/4″ base diameter base and 1-1/4″ diameter backgammon checkers with shakers and die (not included). Based on the direction of the fold in the chessboard indicates a late-Victorian production, since the fold is in the correct direction.
This Folding Backgammon and Chess Board/Box good condition for its age. There is a longitudinal crack traversing the chessboard, as can be seen in the images. The finish is quite good This game box dates to around 1880.
