Rajasthan Monochrome Chess Set.
Offered here is a Rajasthan monochrome Chess Set 3-1/8″ tall with a 1-3/4″ Base. The chessmen are very finely carved and the two armies are distinguished by the base color, which is natural for the White army and Black for the dark army. The chessmen are in perfect condition and were manufactured in Rajasthan, India. Circa 1945 The Kings, Queens and Rooks are represented as elephants with riders in howdahs, The Knights are riders on Horseback while the Bishops are represented as riders atop Camels. The set is highly decorative and a typical example of the Rajasthan style.
The chessmen are displayed on a decorative black lacquered folding chessboard box with gold embellishments. It has a Backgammon board on the interior. The chessboard, which measures 19-5/8″ square open with 1-7/8″ squares, is of Chinese origin. Although not included with this chess set, it is available for purchase separately.
This chess set is a Korean War era ivory product. Consequently, it is not available for sale due to restrictions of the sale of ivory products less than 90 years old that do not otherwise meet the Antique Exemptions listed within the 2014 Obama Administration Executive Order DO 210.
