Medieval Capodimonte Ceramic Chess Pieces

Lot #124. Razzetti Medieval Capodimonte Ceramic Chess Pieces

Razzetti Medieval Capodimonte Ceramic Chess Pieces.

Medieval Capodimonte Ceramic Chess Pieces

A handsome set of Medieval Capodimonte Ceramic Chess Pieces. These elaborately hand-painted chessmen are branded as Razzetti., probably the world leader in high-end porcelain chandeliers. They have provided ample evidence that the pieces were modeled by the founder Luigino Razzetti, probably in the 1960s. All the chess pieces bear a hallmark. The King stands a majestic 5-3/4” tall.

The porcelain mark was also used by Ginori. Many porcelain craftsmen and factories in Italy use the term “in the style of Capodimonte” as well as the official Capodimonte mark of a crown above an “N”. Razzetti does so as well.
